March 1st is the start of Turtle Season
And we want thank to Zach Leviletz, our January/February cover photographer, for letting us showcase his work.
As we say goodbye to our “Blue Issue,” I want to thank Zach Leviletz, for being our contributing cover photographer. I “met” Leviletz via Instagram, mesmerized by his stunning wave and ocean photography. We also happen to both be sea turtle volunteers (in different counties in Florida.)
Through his love of photography, Leviletz is also a volunteer helping to protect sea turtles and marine life. Through his lens (and his Instagram account), you can always get your “fix” of “vitamin sea.”
Leviletz’s images capture up close how delicate and fragile our marine life is. It’s a reminder that we all need to be stewards of our environment so generations can inherit a beautiful, healthy planet.
On March 1st we began the new sea turtle nesting season. To date, we have yet to have our first crawl. I’m excited for my mornings on the beach, watching the sunrise, waiting for that first light of dawn to begin the trek along our beaches, checking for turtle activity. And although Leviletz and I will be on different beaches, in different counties, our goals are united.
Last year, Leviletz dove in Dominica, with humpback whales. Be sure and check those shots out on his Instagram! Our lives paralleled each other without even knowing it. My family also visited this same nature island later in the summer! Seeing photos of both of our trips, exploring the same waterfalls on the beach and diving in the bluest water, reminds me of how friendships can form even if you have never met, simply because you have common interests. Instagram is a refreshing “news feed” into the beauty of the world around us. Follow Leviletz @surfzach and Portfolio @verobeach_portfoliomag to get your daily dose!

Please help keep our oceans clean!
Our cover shot was an amazing capture of a baby turtle beginning its long journey into the sea right through the spring mullet run!
Thanks again Zach for allowing us to showcase your beautiful images!
